Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - A second-half stoppage-time goal from Lassi Lappalainen earned CF Montréal a 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo FC on Wednesday evening at Stade Saputo.

Dynamo midfielder Artur (10') scored the first goal of the match, but Lappalainen (90' +6) equalised with a shot from the edge of the box.

Following Chicago Fire FC's 4-1 win over Inter Miami CF, with this point and two games left on the regular schedule, the Montrealers are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.

CF Montréal's next game is Saturday's final home match of the regular season against the Portland Timbers at 7:30pm at Stade Saputo (MLS Season Pass, RDS2, TSN, BPM Sports, CJAD 800).

-Wednesday night was head coach Hernán Losada's 100th MLS match.

-Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois earned his 30th start this season. He becomes the first CF Montréal goalkeeper since Evan Bush (32) in 2019 to accumulate 30 or more starts in a season.

-Lappalainen's equalizer was his second of the season. It was also his 15th career goal.

Postgame comments from head coach Hernán Losada, Lassi Lappalainen and Joel Waterman are available here.

HERNÁN LOSADA

"I internally celebrated Lappalainen's goal. We wanted to win. We did a lot of good things to win. Before Houston's goal, we were dominating. Houston are a tough team to play against when they're leading. We gave it our all from start to finish. It's a point that keeps us in the race. We need everyone on Saturday. Anything's still possible. It's up to us to keep believing."

LASSI LAPPALAINEN

"On the goal, the ball bounced towards me and my first shot was blocked. I had another chance to shoot and I didn't miss. You rarely celebrate a point unless you qualify for the playoffs. We could have taken all three points, but it doesn't matter. We struggle to take points, but if we take three, four or six in the last two games, the playoffs are still possible."

JOEL WATERMAN

"I need to work on some things to become a leader and make sure I'm a reference for the younger guys. It was an honor to wear the armband tonight and lead the guys in the second half. I think we had a lot of chances in the first half. It's two dropped points. We're very demanding of ourselves. We showed good resilience tonight and Lassi's goal was important ahead of Saturday's game."
