Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - As part of CF Montréal's flagship celebration match in recognition of the Club's 30th anniversary and also MLS Rivalry Week, CF Montréal will host Toronto FC this Saturday night at 7:30pm EDT at Stade Saputo (Apple MLS Season Pass, BPM Sports, TSN 690).
For the occasion, fans attending the match are invited to wear their old jerseys and take part in celebrations planned at the 30th minute of the match. The Club has also released a video commemorating 30 years of history, passion and emotion and invites those present tomorrow evening to discover the new historic timeline installation under the south stands as well as the new official 30th anniversary beer, which will be launching on Saturday in collaboration with Labatt and available exclusively at Stade Saputo.
Following a fifth consecutive win (all competitions) on Tuesday against Toronto at BMO Field in the Canadian Championship semifinals, fans will now be treated to a second derby in five days, this time at Stade Saputo.
Overall, the Montrealers hold a 12-14-5 regular season record against Toronto with a goal differential of -6. At Stade Saputo, however, the record stands at 4-7-0.
Among the notable absences confirmed for Saturday is that of defender Joel Waterman who went the full 90 minutes in Toronto. The Canadian international was handed a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation following the game against Orlando.
Last Saturday, Romell Quioto scored his 34th career goal with CF Montréal. The Honduran striker is now tied with Marco Di Vaio for the second most goals in the Club's MLS history. His next tally will also be the 50th of his MLS career.
Having made his return after an injury that kept him sidelined since mid-April, Quioto has enjoyed significant success against TFC, contributing to eight goals (4 goals, 4 assists) in 11 games - more than any other opponent he has faced in the past. Five of those eight contributions have come since he joined Montreal in 2020.
Meanwhile, teammate Mathieu Choinière, who started Tuesday and turned provider on Chinonso Offor's game-winner, is 11 minutes away from reaching the 5,000-minute mark in MLS. He would become the first Homegrown player to reach this milestone with CF Montréal.
Between the sticks, goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois has gone 314 minutes without allowing a goal in MLS play. This is the third-longest streak by a Montreal goalkeeper since 2012. The current record belongs to Evan Bush with 420 minutes without conceding a goal in the 2018 season.
As for the visitors, they are winless in their last eight games away from home. Toronto's last road win came last August in Charlotte.
