The Revolution are still the MLS leaders entering Matchday 12 after extending their unbeaten streak to eight games in league play, tied for the league's longest current run without a loss, with a 2-0 victory at Toronto FC last Saturday. With the win, New England is tied for the MLS lead in away victories with a 3-1-1 mark on the road. With a victory over Miami on Saturday, New England would reach eight wins through the first 12 games of a season for the first time in the league's post-shootout era (since 2000).
Forward Bobby Wood propelled New England to swift lead in Toronto with a 19th-minute tally on a breakaway, moving him into a tie for the team lead with three goals on the year. The Revolution are pacing MLS in shots on target (61), while their 18 goals are tied for fourth most. Defender DeJuan Jones secured the triumph in Toronto with a goal in the 62nd minute, his first goal of 2023. Midfielder Noel Buck logged his ninth start of the season as the teenager from Arlington, Mass. recorded a game-high 13 duels won. Jones and Buck both earned MLS Team of the Matchday selections for their performances in the winning effort.
In net, goalkeeper Djordje Petrović tallied five saves for his fifth shutout performance through 11 games played this season. The Revolution's nine goals conceded are second fewest in the Eastern Conference, while their plus-nine goal differential is tied for second best league-wide. In its last five regular season games, New England has allowed only one goal from open play.
Saturday's match will mark the fifth all-time meeting with Inter Miami CF, which joined MLS as an expansion side in 2020. Revolution captain Carles Gil has tallied three assists, with one goal, in four career games against the Herons. Miami recently snapped a six-game losing streak with victories in its last two matches, a pair of 2-1 wins over the Columbus Crew and Atlanta United, respectively. Their dynamic attack is led in part by former MLS MVP and three-time MLS Best XI forward Josef Martinez, the Venezuelan star who won the MLS Golden Boot en route to the MLS Cup title with Atlanta United in 2018.
