Toronto FC and Special Olympics Ontario Announce 2023 Unified Exchange Roster
May 12, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
As part of the Special Olympics Unified Sports Soccer Exchange Program, Toronto FC and Special Olympics Ontario unveiled the roster of players from the Greater Toronto Area competing at Saputo Stadium tomorrow evening. These athletes will compete against selected players from the Montreal area in a match preceding the Major League Soccer (MLS) match between Toronto FC and CF Montreal at 7:30 p.m.
"We're excited to once again have the opportunity to be partnering with Toronto FC on this Unified program. After a very successful return to this program last year, there was a tremendous amount of excitement to return to the field for this event in 2023," said Glenn MacDonell, President & CEO, Special Olympics Ontario. "Through our partnership with Toronto FC, we are able to provide our athletes with a competitive and meaningful experience, while spreading our message of inclusion and acceptance."
The Unified Exchange Program leverages the power of sport to promote social inclusion and belonging. The program unites players with and without intellectual disabilities as members of one team in the spirit of inclusivity and to showcase these athletes' talent to MLS fans. The Unified teams that participate in the program travel for exhibition matches scheduled alongside MLS First Team matches, receive authentic uniforms provided by adidas and join in MLS First Team experiences such as practices with MLS front office staff and players, mentorship and more.
