Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals didn't disappoint the sellout crowd at Perani Arena and Event Center on Saturday night.

A crowd of 4,421 watched Jaroslav Cesky fire the game winner with under five minutes remaining to lift the Generals to a 4-3 victory over the Port Huron Icehawks and make Darren McCarty's home debut a success. It was the second win by the Generals this season when trailing after 40 minutes of hockey. It was also Cesky's first game of the season with the Generals after being cleared by the IHL to play.

The Generals won their 18th of the season and 11th on the road but remain four points back of the Fort Wayne Komets for first place in the IHL Standings. The Komets beat Muskegon 3-0.

Prior to the game the Generals made a special presentation to Jason Cirone for playing in his 1000th professional game recently. He was presented with a plaque from the hockey team. He had more than 50 family and friends there in attendance at the game and he made sure they were happy by scoring a goal late in the second period to cut the Port Huron lead to 2-0.

Cirone got the goal on a pass across the ice from Darren McCarty who notched his first point in the IHL and as a General.

The Generals owned the third period and scored three straight times. Greg Bullock cued the comeback when he scored shorthanded after stealing the puck at center ice. It was the Generals fourth shorthanded marker of the season and first since Thanksgiving Day Holiday Weekend.

Michael Beausoleil gave the Generals a 3-2 lead when he scored on the power play from Shaun Fisher and Nick Tuzzolino. Less than two minutes later Jaroslav Cesky walked in over the blue line and crushed a shot by Icehawks' goaltender Marty Magers and it was 4-2. The Port Huron Icehawks made a comeback in the final four minutes with a power play goal but couldn't get the equalizer.

Eric Marvin had an outstanding game in net for Flint turning aside 34 of 37 shots he faced. The Icehawks were 2 for 7 on the power play and the Generals were 1 for 8.

The Generals were without Brett Westgarth and Jordan Fox who were both on call-ups to the American Hockey League. Fox was called up today to the Albany River Rats. Jared Dumba was also out of the line-up due to injury.
