
Port Huron Icehawks give up 4 late goals in 4-3 loss

FLINT, Mich. - The Port Huron Icehawks watched an early lead slip away on Friday as the Flint Generals notched four unanswered goals to rally to a 4-3 win in in front of 4,421 fans at Perani Arena and Events Center.
The Icehawks pulled to an early 2-0 advantage with a first period goal from Jeremy Tucker and a second period power play tally from Tab Lardner. Flint responded with a Jason Cirone goal at the 17:22 mark in the second and three unanswered goals in the third to get back in the game.
Port Huron defenseman Derek Merlini notched his first professional goal on the power play at 17:36 to make it a one-goal game, but the Icehawks were unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes of play.
Prior to the loss, Port Huron had won their last three road games, which included two wins at Flint. The Icehawks continue to sit at third place in the International Hockey League with 39 points, while the Generals remain in second place.
Port Huron outshot Flint 37-32 in the loss. They also came out on top on the power play, with two power play goals in seven opportunities. Flint was 1-8 on the power play.
The Icehawks continue a busy weekend tomorrow with a clash at Bloomington, before they conclude a four-game road trip with a visit to first place Fort Wayne on Sunday.
Game Notes...Defenseman Joe Markusen added one assist in tonight's game. He is now on a five-game streak for points and has racked up seven points (4g, 2a) in that span...Former Red Wing and three-time Stanley Cup champion Darren McCarty made his home debut for the Generals in front of a sold out crowd tonight. He had one assist in the game.
