Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats' bats came to life in the late innings of a 6-1 win over Vermont on Friday night, as Gilberto Celestino homered for a third straight game at Joe Bruno Stadium.
Celestino's home run sparked a string of five late runs that were sprinkled across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Jeremy Pena gave the ValleyCats their first lead of the day with a fourth inning double that brought home Trey Dawson in making the score 1-0 Tri-City.
It was in the sixth inning that Celestino's one-out homer gave way to a three-run seventh inning.
Oscar Campos, Trey Dawson and Gilberto Celestino each picked up a run batted in during the seventh, before Enmanuel Valdez scored the ValleyCats' final run in the eighth inning off of a Vermont error.
Offensively, the ValleyCats went the first three innings without a baserunner, but each player in the starting lineup came away with a hit by the end of the night.
After Felipe Tejada started the game on the mound for Tri-City, Juan Pablo Lopez hurled three shutout frames to earn his first win of the season.
Ian Hardman and Brett Conine (who gave up the Cats' only run in the seventh inning) each earned a hold, before Devin Conn ended the game with a hitless ninth inning.
With their second straight win, the ValleyCats improve to 11-10 on the season, tied with Vermont for first place in the Stedler Division.
Tri-City will continue its six-game home stand at Joe Bruno Stadium on Saturday night, when the ValleyCats host the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
First pitch will take place at 7 p.m. with coverage beginning on the Tri-City ValleyCats Radio Network with Steven Cusumano at 6:45 p.m.
