Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs will finish the remaining four innings of yesterday's game that was suspended due to rain. 30 minutes after the completion of that game, the regularly sheduled game for Frday will be played. That will be the first seven-inning game of the season for Batavia.
That was yesterday- After five innings last night, Batavia trailed 3-0. Humerto Mejia started the game, and gave up a solo shot in the first inning. The game was suspended in the top of the 5th, with no outs, and a 2-0 to Albert Guaimaro.
Offense Overload- In nine of the first 18 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with 15 runs scored, Sean Reynolds is second with 14, and Demetrius Sims in third with 13.
Missing Encarnacion- The Muckdogs' offense has been missing Jerar Encarnacion, who has been on a tear to start off the season. On his current eleven game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .479. Despite being down with injury, he's still second in the league in hits (23). He's third in doubles (6), fourth in extra base hits (7) and sits atop the league with his .479 average and with his .500 OBP. He also has the most defensive assists by any outfielder in the league with three, all coming on June 19th against West Virginia. Batavia is 3-4 since Encarnacion left the lineup.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 11 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 3-8 in those contests.
Many Mahoning Meetings- The Scrappers and the Muckdogs will meet ten more times this season after today's matchup. The next meeting arrives on July 20-22 at Dwyer Stadium
Recent Roster Action- On July 4th, RHP Peyton Culbertson and SS Gunnar Schubert were promoted from the GCL Marlins.
Marlins Update- Miami had a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning against Washington last night. The Nationals then rallied for fourteen unanswered runs in the fourth through seventh innings. The fish put up three more in the eighth but would drop the final 14-12. Former Muckdog Brian Anderson hit a three-run homer in the loss.
