Moises Nunez Walks off Lowell in Tenth, 3-2

Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

NORWICH, Ct. - In just his fourth start of the season since joining the Connecticut Tigers (9-12) on Opening Night, Moises Nunez came up clutch in the bottom of the tenth with a two-run homer that gave the Tigers their third walkoff win of the season, 3-2 over the Lowell Spinners (9-12) on Friday night at Dodd Stadium.

Nunez clubbed his first home run since August 26, 2016 in the Gulf Coast League. The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic was the first batter up for the Tigers in the tenth and drove in Ulrich Bojarski, who was placed at second base as the tie-breaking runner. Nunez, a reserve catcher, made his first start at first base this season and finished the game with a team-best two runs batted in.

The Spinners took a 2-1 lead in the top of the tenth following a balk and a wild pitch by Dylan Stock (Win, 1-0). The 21-year-old bounced back to strike out a pair and picked up his first victory since June 20, 2017 after two innings of relief.

Connecticut jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the fourth on a two-out, RBI single by outfielder Eric De La Rosa. Following a 4-for-4 night at the plate in his debut with the Tigers on Thursday, the 2018 Detroit Tigers seventh-round draft pick is now 5-for-7 with three RBI, two doubles, a run, a walk, and a stolen base through two games in the New York-Penn League.

Lowell tied the score in the fifth against Tigers starter Carson Lance. Tyler Esplin tripled to right and scored one batter later on an RBI single by Jonathan Ortega. Lance held the 1-1 score and stranded the bases loaded by deflecting a hard line drive off his body before making the throw to first for the final out of the frame. Lance worked around five walks and exited after a career-high seven innings with one earned run on three hits and four strikeouts.

Former Double-A catcher Arvicent Perez made his professional debut as a pitcher with Connecticut in the eighth inning. The 24-year-old Venezuelan, now in his seventh professional season, tossed a hitless eighth inning with a walk and a strikeout.

Connecticut is now two games out of a first-place tie between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Tri-City ValleyCats in the Stedler Division. On Saturday, the Tigers head north to meet the Lake Monsters for the first of three games in Burlington. Left-handed starter Adam Wolf (0-1, 6.00) makes his second start as a Tiger against Vermont righty Jose Mora (0-0, 0.53).

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut. Individual tickets for all 2018 home games, season memberships to "The Club," ticket mini-plans, and Tigers merchandise are now on sale at Dodd Stadium, over the phone at 860-887-7962, and online at CTTigers.com.
