Granville, W. Va. - In the final game of the series, the West Virginia Black Bears were defeated by the Williamsport Crosscutters by a score of 8-4.
Despite the loss, the Black Bears took two of three games from the Crosscutters to pick up the series win at home.
Williamsport started off in the top of the second inning by scoring three runs, putting West Virginia down 3-0 in the early going.
Then in the fourth inning, 3B Mike Gretler responded in a big way for the Black Bears. With runners on the corners, the first-year pro scorched a triple to the centerfield wall to drive in two runs. He would later score on a passed ball to tie the game at 3-3.
Gretler picked up another RBI on a groundout in the fifth inning, putting West Virginia ahead one run on the Crosscutters. He finished the night going 2-4 from the plate with three RBIs.
Williamsport retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning, getting three runs on three hits to put the visitors up 6-4 over the Black Bears.
The Crosscutters snagged a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth inning to add insurance, sealing a win after a seven-game losing streak.
West Virginia remains at home for another three-game series facing the Auburn Doubledays. First pitch on Saturday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
