Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits broke a late tie Sunday at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to earn a 7-5 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Quad Cities (56-26) won five of six games played in its first road series with Cedar Rapids (45-39) this season.
Four River Bandit runs opened the scoring in Sunday's series finale. Seuly Matias grounded out during the first inning to drive in Maikel Garcia. Within the third, Matias and Nathan Eaton produced RBI singles before Eric Cole's sacrifice fly pushed the early lead to 4-0 Quad Cities.
Yunior Severino got Cedar Rapids on the board during the home half of the third inning. Gabriel Maciel singled and later stole second base, and Severino brought him in on a single that trimmed the deficit to 4-1.
Matias homered in the fifth to build a 5-1 Quad Cities advantage, but Cedar Rapids pulled even at 5-5 later in the frame. Matt Wallner's two-out single allowed Jeferson Morales to come home. Wander Javier followed with a game-tying three-run home run into the Plumbers & Pipefitters Pavilion.
Quad Cities regained the lead during the seventh and secured a 7-5 winning margin within the eighth inning. John Rave's seventh-inning, go-ahead single plated Michael Massey. Logan Porter added an eighth-inning solo blast.
Kasey Kalich (1-0) escaped a seventh-inning jam en route to a victory, and Peyton Gray tossed two shutout innings for his sixth save. Erik Manoah Jr. (1-2) gave up the two late runs and was the losing pitcher.
