Lancaster Stormers News Release

Brian Cavazos-Galvez was a one-man wrecking crew on Saturday evening.

The Barnstormers' right fielder went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and six runs batted in to lead Lancaster past the Bridgeport Bluefish, 10-7, in a series finale at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

In gaining the series split, the Barnstormers remained two games ahead of York in the Freedom Division race on the eve of a four-game, head-to-head series with the Revolution at Santander Stadium.

Bridgeport reached Joe Gardner (6-3) for a pair of runs in the first. Wilson Batista doubled home Wellington Dotel, who had been drilled by a Gardner pitch, and later scored on Sean Burroughs single to center.

Cavazos-Galvez belted the first of his two homers in the second to draw Lancaster even, but the Bluefish knocked Gardner around again in their half of the inning. Matt Wessinger led off with a walk, and Matt Burns grounded a single into left. Ethan Chapman failed to get a bunt down, striking out instead for the first out. A single to left by Bryant Nelson loaded the bases. Dotel knocked in two with a single through the left side. One out later, Andres Rodriguez launched a three-run homer to left for a 7-2 lead.

Gardner and four relievers held the Bluefish scoreless for the rest of the night, and it did not take long for the Barnstormers to take the lead.

Singles by Kent Matthes and Charlie Cutler set up Cavazos-Galvez again in the third inning, and the New Mexican delivered with an RBI double into left center. Lance Zawadzki banged a single to left, driving in two more, and the Bridgeport lead was down to two.

Zach Collier greeted Matt Iannazzo (4-7) with a bunt single down the third base line in the fourth, and Anderson Feliz chimed in with a single to left. Matthes grounded into a force play at second, and Mike McDade made it 7-6 with a single up the middle. Sam Gervacio worked a count to 3-2 against Cutler. Manager Butch Hobson took a gamble and started his runners. The move paid off as Cutler grounded to short, but Lancaster was able to stay out of the double play. Cavazos-Galvez followed with his second homer for a 9-7 lead.

To add a cherry to his night, Cavazos-Galvez opened the seventh with a single, stole second and eventually scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Blake Hassebrock, Scott Gracey, Scott Patterson and Marcus Walden each pitched a scoreless inning for Lancaster. Walden notched his fourth save, getting Burroughs to ground into a force play as the potential tying run at the plate in the ninth.

Lancaster sends Nate Reed (2-6) to the hill on Sunday against Logan Williamson (5-8). Fans many tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 4:45.

NOTES: Cavazos-Galvez took the league home run lead with 15 and pulled within one of Lew Ford for the RBI lead...He had his second game of the season with four or more hits and his third with four or more RBI...It was his second multi-homer game...Lancaster's bullpen threw 16 2/3 innings in the series, allowing three earned runs...Matthes had the only other multi-hit game...Lancaster has reached double digits nine times this season, five against Bridgeport.
