'Cats Sweep Spinners with 5-0 Shutout
August 31, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
LOWELL, MA - One night after capturing the Stedler Division title, the ValleyCats pitching staff put up another dominating performance, allowing only two hits in a 5-0 shutout of the Lowell Spinners on Friday night at LaLacheur Park in Lowell. The 'Cats completed a three game sweep of the Spinners.
Brett Daniels earned the victory for Tri-City, improving his record to 3-0. Daniels allowed just one hit in three innings while striking out five batters. Devin Conn and Shawn Dubin combined to complete the shutout, throwing three hitless innings to cap off the ballgame.
Mark Moclair got the start for the 'Cats, and allowed just one hit in three innings. He struggled with command at times, walking four Spinners in the no-decision.
Offensively, it was a total team effort. Tri-City scored all of their five runs in the seventh and eighth innings, with five 'Cats contributing an RBI. Enmanuel Valdez and Logan Mattix each had multi-hit games.
The ValleyCats record now stands at 41-31 with three games left to play in the regular season, and will have a great chance at reaching the 42 win plateau for the first time since 2015.
The playoff scenario hasn't changed for the 'Cats, as each of the top NYPL teams won their respective match-ups. The ValleyCats remain with the second best record, two games behind the Hudson Valley Renegades with three games left to play. Mahoning Valley remains the number three seed, one game behind the 'Cats.
Tri-City now heads to Vermont to wrap up their 2018 regular season, and will then get ready for a Semi-Final playoff game on Wednesday, September 5. The game will either be played on the road, or at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Playoff tickets are on sale now at tcvalleycats.com, or through the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium box office. Labor Day Weekend box office hours are Saturday and Monday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
