Brooklyn, NY - The Cyclones dropped the middle game of a three-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 4-2 on Thursday night at MCU Park. With the loss, Brooklyn is now just 1/2 a game in front of Auburn in the race for the Wild Card and just one game ahead of Staten Island with four games to play.

Brooklyn jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Hayden Senger grounded into a double play with runners on the corners, allowing Chandler Avant to score the game's first run. After a scoreless third, the Cyclones extended their lead in the fourth with the same duo at the heart of the rally.

Avant got things started with a two-out bunt single and advanced to third on a base-knock off the bat of Anthony Dirocie. With a pair of runners aboard, Senger laced a single up the middle to chase Avant home and extend Brooklyn's lead to 2-0.

That's how it would stay until the top of the sixth, when Brooklyn starter Christian James ran into his first bit of trouble all night. Ford Proctor worked a leadoff walk, and Erik Ostberg followed with a single to put the tying runs aboard with nobody out. Jacson McGowan and Kaleo Johnson took advantage of the scoring changes with back-to-back doubles to left-center field that plated three runs and gave the Renegades a 3-2 advantage.

An inning later, the 'Gades were able to capitalize on a throwing error from Senger on a stolen base attempt that led to an unearned run and extended the Hudson Valley lead to 4-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brooklyn had one last scoring chance, getting the tying runs on base with two outs, but Carlos Cortes flied out to end the threat with the Cyclones still trailing by a pair.

Brooklyn's loss, partnered with wins from Aberdeen, Staten Island, and Auburn, mean that there are four teams separated by just 1.5 games in the race for the NYPL Wild Card with just four games left to play. Brooklyn will look to rebound and take the rubber game of the three-game series on Friday night when it sends Kyle Wilson (4-3) to the mound against LHP Christopher Sanchez for the Renegades. Brooklyn will then close out the 2018 regular season with a critical three-game set against the cross-bridge rival Staten Island Yankees on Saturday at MCU Park.
