
Cats Sweep Captains with 9-3 Win

Ryan Patterson had three hits and four runs batted in as the Cats defeated Shreveport-Bossier 9-3 in front of 4,411 on Thursday night at LaGrave Field. The win was the Cats' third straight as they complete the three-game sweep of the Captains.
A scoreless game until the bottom of the fourth, the Cats scored twice that inning to break on to the scoreboard. After a Michael Bell walk, Kelley Gulledge doubled to left for a 1-0 Cats lead. The next batter Isa Garcia also delivered a run-scoring double, scoring Gulledge for a 2-0 Fort Worth advantage.
The Cats would tack on three more runs in the fifth as Ryan Patterson smacked a two-run double to right and Bell collected an RBI single.
Leading 5-0 in the sixth, the Captains brought home two runs on a sacrifice fly by Christopher Garcia and an RBI single by Andres Rodriguez. But the Cats got those runs back, plus one as Cameron Blair and Patterson each had run-scoring doubles in the fifth followed by a John Allen RBI single to make it 8-2.
Patterson notched his fourth RBI of the night in the eighth inning with an RBI single for a 9-2 lead before the Captains scored a run in the ninth to narrow the lead to 9-3.
Lee Gwaltney earned the win in his return to the Cats from the Mexican League. Gwaltney went six innings, permitted two runs on four hits with three strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the season. Thad Markray lasted just 4 1/3 innings for Shreveport-Bossier and gave up five runs on six hits to suffer the loss as his record fell to 3-8.
The Cats recorded 13 hits in the game including eight doubles. In the three game series, Fort Worth had a total of 48 hits. Thursday, Fryer, Blair and Gullege each had two hits in the game. With his two hits, Fryer extended his hitting streak to 19 games.
The hit the road for six games including a three-game series with Pensacola which begins Friday. Game time is 6:35 p.m. with Ryan Riddle (4-5) on the mound for Fort Worth.
