
Wingnuts Blanked in Series Finale

ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 2-0 to the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium on Thursday night.
Rookie right-hander Todd Mathison, who was making his first professional start, kept the Wingnuts to just one hit in 7.2 shutout innings. Mathison struck out six and walked one while earning the win.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from left fielder Josh Alley down the right field line. St. Paul added the game's final run on a sacrifice fly by Jason Cooper in the bottom of the seventh.
Gabe Medina pitched well but took the loss. Medina allowed one run on four hits in six innings and fell to 8-4 on the season.
Greg Porter had his hitting streak snapped at 14 games going 0 for 4. Wichita had the tying runs on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but reliever Mike Bille recorded the final five outs to earn the save.
The Wingnuts now travel to Sioux City for a three-game weekend series against the Explorers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Adam Cowart will be on the mound for Wichita. The Wingnuts return home on Tuesday, August 18th when they host the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. The 75th annual NBC World Series continues at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium through August 15th.
