
Cats Slug Past Wings

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Fort Worth Cats used a six run seventh inning rally led by Shelby Ford who went 3-for-5 with three doubles on the night in route to a 10-6 win over Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
Starting second basemen Aljay Davis hit a two out double, opening the door for Shelby Ford. Ford hit a base hit down the third base line scoring Davis from second giving the cats an early 1-0 lead.
The Wings answered back with back to back singles from Goose Kallunki and Michael Garcia in the bottom of the second inning. Thomas Shull then laid down a bunt where Shull reached first on an error at first, scoring Kallunki and Garcia giving the Wings a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Wings would take a 4-1 lead on runs by Garcia and Kieran Bradford. Both runs scored on a sharp ground ball hit from Andrew Deeds who reached first on an error.
The Cats would rally in the fifth inning, starting right fielder Chris Ellison led off the inning with a double. Ellison would score on an RBI double from Shelby Ford. Fords RBI would trim the lead 4-3.
The Cats would take the lead on a routine base hit to right field hit Ellison, starting right fielder Andrew Deeds failed to make the routine play as the ball rolled all the way to the right-field wall scoring Ellison to give the Cats a 5-4 lead.
In the seventh inning Fort Worth would put up six runs in the frame as the offense batted around, led by Chris Chistopoulos's ground rule double scoring Meeley and Kuroczko extending the lead 7-4. Cameron Monger would drive in two more runs on a two RBI single.
The Wings would tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh as Albert Carpen and Deeds scored on a routine ground ball hit from Kallunki, starting shortstop Shelby Ford made a low throw to first, as the ball went past starting first basemen David Bergin trimming the lead 10-6.
The Cats would hold on and win game two of the series; Fort Worth displayed their offense with 18 total hits on ten runs. Game three is set for Friday as the Wings send Drew Coffey to the mound. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
