Cats Trade Melo and Maitland

Fort Worth Cats News Release

In a four-person trade on Wednesday and Thursday, the Fort Worth Cats traded middle infielder Kori Melo and outfielder Tim Maitland to the Edinburg Roadrunners for catcher Chris Christopoulos and right-handed pitcher Kyle Wilson.

Fort Worth traded Melo for Christopoulos on Wednesday and finalized the Maitland for Wilson portion of the deal on Thursday afternoon.

Christopoulos started at catcher in Wednesday night's Cats' game against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and went 1-for-3 with an RBI walk.

In 77 at-bats with Edinburg, Christopoulos batted .260 with 12 RBI and two home runs.

Shelby Ford, a natural infielder, has seen a majority of the starts behind the plate in recent weeks. Christopoulos' presence should allow Ford the opportunity to play elsewhere on the diamond - especially at shortstop since Melo is no longer on the team.

Wilson, a 30-year-old UCLA graduate, has a 1-1 record in four games with the Roadrunners. He has started all four games in which he has appeared. He has a 3.11 ERA in 26 innings-pitched and has 25 strikeouts compared to nine walks-allowed.

Melo appeared in 28 games with the Cats, tallying a .209 batting average in 86 at-bats with 9 RBI. Melo also managed to draw 25 walks and had a .393 on-base percentage.

Maitland, who played his college ball at the University of Texas, played in 24 games with the team and had a .266 average in 64 at-bats with 7 RBI. He saw limited playing time as the fifth outfielder. Cameron Monger, Aljay Davis, Daniel Meeley and Chris Ellison drew most of the starts in the outfield.

After they wrap up a four-game series against the WhiteWings, the Cats head home to take on the Alexandria Aces on June 30 at LaGrave Field.
