Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners had the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth but their rally fell short as they fell to the Alexandria Aces 7-6 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 2,534 in attendance.
The Aces (17-17) got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI ground out by Nick Mahin but the Roadrunners answered back with a run of their own on an RBI double by Bobby Rinard tying the game at one.
Derrick Pyles then gave Alexandria the lead in the top of the third with a two run single but once again Edinburg answered back with two runs of their own tying the game at three.
The Roadrunners (15-19) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with Dan Coury's three-run home run making it 6-3. The home run was Coury's third in two games and now has four on the season.
The Aces then tied the game at six with a three-run home run from Zack Cadet, his third home run of the season.
In the top of the ninth, a sacrifice fly by Austin Newell allowed Cadet to score giving the Aces the 7-6 lead.
Gabe Grammer then came on to pitch a scoreless bottom of the ninth for his third save of the season giving Alexandria the 7-6 victory.
Alex Schmarzo (2-1) earned the win after pitching an inning and two-thirds while allowing just one hit.
Frank DeJiulio (2-3) took the loss after allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning of work.
The Roadrunners and Aces will play game three of their four-game Thursday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Dairy Queen will sponsor Friday's game, as the first 1,000 thru the gates will receive a coupon for a mini blizzard.
