Alexandria Aces News Release
EDINBURG- Zack Cadet's 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning begat Austin Newell's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to give the Alexandria Aces a 7-6 victory against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Thursday night.
The Aces trailed Edinburg, 6-3, thanks to Dan Coury's third homer of the series, a 3-run shot off Mike Loseke in the fifth that went beyond the Roadrunners' bullpen in left field.
But Cadet's homer off Antony Bello tied the score. While Bello retired the final eight batters he faced, he was taken out by manager Ozzie Canseco with Cadet coming up with one out in the top of the ninth for righthander Frank DeJulio.
DeJulio promptly walked Cadet, who went to second on a wild pitch and third on an infield single by Michael Haynes before Newell's sacrifice fly to right field plated the final run.
Alex Schmarzo (2-1) threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory while Gabe Grammer threw a hitless ninth to earn his third save.
The Aces (17-17) play the third game of their four game series at Edinburg Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
