Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
FISHKILL, NY-The Hudson Valley Renegades beat the Tri-City ValleyCats 5-1 thanks to a very good pitching performance by Matt Cobb and Jose De La Cruz. The Renegades touched up ValleyCats starter Garrett Murdy, who came out of the bullpen to make a spot start, for five runs in five innings pitched. Cobb racked up six innings of two-hit ball to earn his third win.
Once again, errors hurt the ValleyCats. They made five in the game and finished the three game series with sixteen blunders. The Renegades scored runs in the first and sixth innings due to errors by Kevin Vital and Ben Zobrist respectively.
In the third inning, Hudson Valley struck quickly against Murdy. Fernando Perez led off with a walk. He moved up to second base when Josh Asanovich singled and John Jaso's double allowed him to score. The Renegades had two men on with no one out. Two straight sacrifice fly balls allowed the remaining two men to score and the Renegades had a 4-0 lead at that point.
The only man that saved the ValleyCats from the second shutout in the series was Hunter pence. He belted a solo home run over the centerfield wall.
Chad Reineke pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. Anthony DeWitt moped up with a scoreless eighth and the ValleyCats fell to 30-20 on the season.
The ValleyCats now face off against the Oneonta Tigers in the first of four games in three days at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. It starts tomorrow with a doubleheader at 5:30. Ronnie Martinez gets the start in game one for the 'Cats. Andrew Alvarado takes the ball in game two. Both games can be heard in the Capital Region on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
