New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), 8-3. Donnie Smith (1-2) took the loss for the Cards (25-24) while Eduardo Delacruz (3-3) earned the win for the Renegades (28-21). The loss drops the Cardinals 3.0 games behind wild-card leading Hudson Valley.
The Cards fell behind early, giving up 6 runs in the top of the first inning, but tried to claw their way back into the game. In the 2nd, Brady Toops hit a 2-out double and scored when Matt Shepherd drove him in with an RBI single. Then, in the 3rd inning, Chris Patrick led off with a solo blast to left field. Two outs later, Mike Ferris reached on a walk and came around to score on a Wes Swackhamer double to right that pulled the Cards within 6-3. But that was as close as they would come as the Renegades added a pair of runs in the 9th for the final margin.
The Cards and Renegades continue their series tomorrow night in Hudson Valley, and then return to Skylands Park on Thursday night at 7:15 for the series finale. They open a 2-game series with Brooklyn on Friday, and play the finale at Skylands Park on Saturday night beginning at 5:00 pm. Thursday night is Miller Lite Bat Bonanza sponsored by Miller Lite and the New Jersey Herald and Singles Night presented by Miller Lite. Saturday there is a Thunderstixx Giveway sponsored by Roccos Italian Deli, Family Catch on the Field and a Boy Scout Sleepover.
