The Sports Network has announced that Auburn infielder Chip Cannon and Lowell lefthander RJ Swindle have won the NY Penn League Players of the Week ending Sunday, August 8.

The 22-year old Cannon batted .308 last week, leading the league in slugging (.885), home runs (4) and tied for the league lead in runs scored with eight.

Cannon belted two home runs and drove in five runs in his first two games of the week. In Tuesday's game against Mahonning Valley, Cannon went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. He homered again two nights later and capped his week by banging out two hits, including a home run and two RBI.

Cannon is off to a great start, batting a solid .295 with eight home runs and 27 runs batted in.

The 21-year old Swindle has been outstanding this season and in particular last week, where he compiled a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings of work. Even more dazzling is the fact that he allowed just two hits and held opponents to a .056 batting average. He also combined for 16 strikeouts and did not yield a walk.

Swindle made his first appearance in relief of starter Tommy Hottovy on Tuesday evening. He surrendered just one hit over five innings and struck out seven batters en route to a 1-0 victory over Oneonta.

Five days later, Swindle once again came in for Hottovy, this time pitching six shutout innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out nine as Lowell defeated Batavia, 3-1.

He has been impressive this season, compiling a 4-1 record and a 2.09 ERA. He has fanned 46 batters in 43 innings to date.
