Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - Austin Chrismon struck out six batters in six innings shutout innings, but the Tri-City ValleyCats fell to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 1-0, in front of 4,052 fans Wednesday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

The game was a pitchers duel throughout as Chrismon and Scrappers starter Jordan Carter combined to strike out ten batters and allow no runs on eight hits. Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the seventh when Scrappers designated hitter D'Vone McClure led off that frame with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. He then scored on a wild pitch by ValleyCats reliever Vince Wheeland, in what amounted to the game's only run.

Tri-City was able to put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth as designated hitter Jamie Ritchie hit an infield single with one out and moved to second on a two-out single by pinch hitter Ricky Gingras. But the threat ended as Juan Santana struck out on a 3-2 fastball from Scrappers closer J.P. Feyereisen.

The ValleyCats will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow in game two of this three-game series. On the mound for the 'Cats will be LHP Bryan Radziewski (1-0, 3.71), with RHP Julian Merryweather (1-1, 3.52) getting the start for the Scrappers.
