
Cats fall short in 8-6 defeat to Sidewinders

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Tucson Sidewinders scored three runs in the final two innings to defeat the Sacramento River Cats, 8-6, in front of a Raley Field crowd of 12,249 on Saturday night. Sacramento reliever Brad Kilby entered in the eighth inning with a runner on third and two outs when he threw the ball away on a pickoff throw to first base, allowing the go-ahead run for Tucson to score. In the ninth inning, Jamie D'Antona hit a two-run home run off Kilby to extend the Sidewinders' lead. The River Cats scored their six runs on just four hits. Sacramento scored three of their runs in the sixth inning without a hit, scoring on four walks, a wild pitch and two RBI groundouts. Sacramento scored its first run of the game in the third inning on a Jesus Guzman groundout, scoring Richie Robnett who reached on a double. Joe Gaetti hit a solo home run in the third inning and Landon Powell hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. Gaetti reached with two outs in the ninth on a strike out wild pitch, setting up a bases loaded situation for Cliff Pennington, who ended the game on a fly ball to centerfield. The two teams conclude their four-game set on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
