Cubs and Isotopes split doubleheader

The Iowa Cubs and Albuquerque Isotopes split a doubleheader Saturday night in front of 12, 648 people at Principal Park. The Cubs dropped game one, 11-6, and won the second game 9-1. The Iowa Cubs homered three times in game two to defeat the Isotopes 9-3. Bobby Scales got the Cubs on the board early with a two-run homer in the first inning. Casey McGehee then gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead in the second inning when he hit his ninth home run of the season. Iowa tallied another four runs in the third inning, highlighted by Jason Dubois' two-run home run and McGehee's RBI double. Albuquerque's Chase Lambin homered in the fourth inning to cut the Cubs lead 7-1. The Cubs took a 9-1 lead in the fifth inning when Luis Figueroa hit an RBI groundout and Andres Blanco drove in a Josh Kroeger on a sacrifice fly. Figueroa went 2-for-3 in game two and 3-for-3 in game one. Dallas McPherson tripled and drove in two runs for Albuquerque in the sixth inning, to trim the Cubs' lead 9-3. Kevin Hart started the game, striking out five in three innings before Jesse Estrada (1-0) came in and earned the win for Iowa. Estrada allowed three run on four hits over four innings. Marcos Carvajal (1-2) took the loss for Albuquerque. After falling behind 3-0 after the first inning of game one, the Cubs tied it 3-3 in the fourth inning when Ben Broussard hit a three-run homer. Iowa scored two more in the fifth inning when Micah Hoffpauir launched a two-run home run to lead 5-3. The Isotopes' John Gall and Chase Lambin drove in a pair of runs to tie the game 5-5 in the sixth inning. Koyie Hill put the Cubs ahead 6-5 in the sixth inning with a solo homer, the third of the game for Iowa. Albuquerque claimed the lead in the seventh inning when reliever Carmen Pignatiello allowed six runs on six hits for the Isotopes to take an 11-6 lead and the win. Pignatiello (0-1) was tagged with the loss while Ross Wolf (3-1) picked up the win. Iowa totaled six home runs and 20 hits between the two games. The two teams meet tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
