Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Nick Hundley hit his 12th home run of the season and Wade LeBlanc earned his seventh win as the Portland Beavers beat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 7-2 Saturday night before 6,981 at PGE Park.
Will Venable drew three walks, including one with the bases loaded, and Tom King doubled and extended his season-best hitting streak to seven games as one of four Beavers (42-38) to log multi-hit nights.
LeBlanc (7-6) yielded a pair of runs and five hits without issuing a walk and tallied four strikeouts over six innings to notch his second win over the Sky Sox (40-41). Wil Ledezma struck out four and worked the final three scoreless innings to get the save.
The Beavers, who improved to 5-1 against the Sky Sox this season, scored in each of the first three innings and built their lead to 7-2 with a three-run, sixth-inning rally.
Franklin Morales (5-3) took the loss, giving up six runs, eight hits and five walks in his 5 1/3 innings of work.
Venable drew a bases-loaded walk in the first and LeBlanc singled and scored on a sac fly from Chip Ambres in the second.
The Beavers spotted the Sky Sox a run in the top of the second when Ian Stewart's third home run in as many games barely cleared the wall in left, but Hundley belted a convincing two-run shot to the same vicinity as the Beavers, who gained a game on division-leading Salt Lake, built a 4-1 lead.
Colorado Springs got a run back in the fifth on an RBI double by Jayson Nix.
Portland loaded the bases again in the sixth, this time cashing in for three runs, as Matt Antonelli scored from third on a wild pitch and Brett Dowdy, who hit an RBI single in the inning, later came in on a fielder's choice grounder to short.
