Moncton Wildcats News Release
Last Week Recap
The Wildcats split a pair of weekend games last week beating the Halifax Mooseheads 5-1 and losing in a shootout to the Rimouski Oceanic 2-1. In Friday's 5-1 victory over the Mooseheads the Cats got goals from Devon MacAusland (his 15 of the season), Tyler Howe scored his 1st of the year, and Scott Trask scored his 4th of the campaign. Marek Hrivik playing his first game since returning from the World Juniors sniped his team leading 19th goal of the season and Alex Saulnier added a 5th his 18th of the year. Steve Gleeson played in his first game since being promoted to the Cats starting goalie stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Wildcats returned home Sunday to face the Rimouski Oceanic in a game that was televised nationally on Rogers Sportsnet. With the Cats down 1-0 early in the third Allain Saulnier scored his 18th of the year to tie the game. The teams battled through the remainder of the third and overtime without scoring a goal setting the stage for a shootout. Saulnier was the only Wildcat to score while the Oceanic were able to beat Gleeson twice to pick up the two points. Gleeson again was solid in the Wildcats' net stopping 22 of 23 shots.
Wildcats' Week Ahead
The Wildcats play a pair of home game this weekend which promises to be a packed and fun atmosphere at the Moncton Coliseum. Saturday they entertain the 13th place Chicoutimi Sagueneens (16-18-3-5). The Cats have defeated the Sags twice on the road this year meaning that Chicoutimi will be coming to Moncton looking to avenge those two earlier defeats. On Sunday, the Wildcats will battle the 6th ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs (26-11-5-1) in a rematch of last year's Quebec league semi final. Moncton lost the only meeting between the two teams 4-0 back in November. There are only 1,000 tickets remaining for both games, be sure to get your tickets as you do not want to miss any of this weeks exciting Wildcat action.
Reading Is Wild
The Moncton Wildcats are excited to launch the 13th edition of the Reading is Wild program. Looking to build on last year's success, the Wildcats will be at the participating schools next week launching the program. Monday they are scheduled to visit Havelock Elementary while Tuesday's visits are scheduled for Birchmount and Lou MacNarin. Thursday the week long launch will wrap up with visits to Lower Coverdale School and Salem Elementary. This year's program looks to be an exciting one as the Wildcats continue to ramp up their involvement within the community. The Wildcats will be back in the participating schools the first week of February as they make their mid-program visit to read to classes within each school. This year one student from each of the schools will have the opportunity to follow Wildcats' reporter Neil Hodge around for a game-day and attend a game as a Junior Reporter! Each week the participating schools will choose a Reader of the Week. This reader will appear in the Saturday edition of the Time and Transcript. Also, each week the schools will be drawing a name of a student who has filled out a ballot after reading a book that week, their prize...some cool Wildcat swag. Finally, each school will choose a class that will receive a pizza party courtesy of Boston Pizza. Players will be in attendance for these parties as they deliver books from Scholastic Book Fairs to put in each of the school's libraries. The program will conclude Sunday February 20th when all the students participating in this year's program visit the Coliseum to watch the home town Wildcats battle the Val D'Or Foreurs.
The Moncton Wildcats and JDRF Team Up For a Great Cause
The Moncton Wildcats and the JDRF have teamed up to put on the first ever Cyclebetes Spin-A-Thon. The event will be held February 12th at a location to be announced in the coming days. JDRF are looking for teams of 8 to take part in a 4 hour long spin-a-thon. Each team must raise a minimum of 50 dollars and the team that raises the most money will win a practice with the Moncton Wildcats! The rules are simple; a member of each team must be riding a stationary bike for the whole four hours. There will be other team building activities being held to keep those who have a break from biking entertained. Members of the Moncton Wildcats will also be in attendance. All funds raised will go to Juvenile Diabetes. For more information on the event and to register please contact Janelle Tyler at 389-2895 or Erica Jamieson at 387-7074 or email moncton@jdrf.ca
Annual Teddy Bear Toss
The annual Medavie Blue Cross Teddy Bear toss will take place during Sunday's January 16th game against the Drummondville Voltigeurss. There have been some rumblings over the bed bug issue regarding this event. However, after doing some research and contacting the local hospitals we are still going ahead with the event! As per the hospital's request fans are asked to bring a teddy bear in a clear plastic bag (if possible a new teddy bear with its tags still on) to the game. When the Cats score the first goal of the game fans are to TOSS their teddy bears onto the ice. Wildcat players will later take the time to visit local hospitals and other organizations to deliver these bears to deserving children.

The second intermission will consist of the annual Timbits Parade of Champions. Tim Hortons will be giving away lots of great program prizes so be sure to purchase your game-day program upon entering the Coliseum.
