Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - For the fourth game in a row, the Lewiston MAINEiacs treated their home fans to a remarkable offensive performance. After scoring 19 goals in three games last week, Lewiston put nine goals on the board on Thursday night, destroying the Halifax Mooseheads 9-3 in front of 1,465 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The first period started off slow, as the two teams felt each other out. Once the midway mark of the period approached, the MAINEiacs began to feel quite comfortable, opening things up with three goals in a span of 2:17. Christophe Lalonde started the scoring, taking a feed from Alex Zafiris, and lifting a backhander into the top part of the net. 58 seconds later, Michael Chaput extended the lead, tipping in Sam Carrier's shot from the right point. 1:19 after that, Etienne Brodeur joined in the fun, knocking in a loose puck in the crease.

Early in the second period, the Mooseheads got on the board, as Darcy Ashley connected with a power play goal from the right point. However, Lewiston was quick to regain their three-goal advantage, as Michael Chaput scored his sixth goal in three games, banging a shot in from the right side. A little more than five minutes later, Jonathan Parisien netted his first goal as a MAINEiac, finding the twine with a wrist shot from the point. After Francis Turbide scored the second Halifax goal, Lewiston responded once again, as Etienne Brodeur found himself open with a breakaway on the power play. The league's leading scorer picked the top corner for a 6-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, the offensive onslaught continued for the home team. 18 seconds in, Kirill Kabanov ripped a shot in so quickly that it needed video review to be confirmed as a good goal. Later in the period, Zach Shannon scored a goal he will remember from quite some time, as he rifled his first career QMJHL goal in from the point. Etienne Brodeur completed the MAINEiacs' scoring at the 9:54 mark with his second career hat trick. Carl Gelinas tallied later for the Mooseheads, giving the game a 9-3 final score in favor of the home team.

Andrey Makarov earned his second straight win, stopping 30 of the 33 shots he faced for Lewiston. Anthony Terenzio was the losing goaltender for Halifax, as he allowed eight goals on 25 shots. Frederic Piche gave up a goal on the only shot he faced in relief.

The MAINEiacs will now embark on a four-game road trip that begins with a pair of contests against the Victoriaville Tigres this weekend. The first game of the trip is on Saturday at 4:00. Lewiston's next home game takes place on January 28th at 7:00 against the Rimouski Oceanic.

Notes: The MAINEiacs have now scored at least five goals in nine of their last ten games, going 8-2-0 in that span... Michael Chaput has scored two goals in each of his last three games... Chaput's five-point game is the 10th in franchise history, and the first since Maxime Gratchev accomplished the feat on November 26, 2008 against Shawinigan... Etienne Brodeur's hat trick was the second of his career, with the first hat trick coming on March 10, 2010 against Drummondville... Lewiston netted nine goals in a game for the sixth time in franchise history. They have scored ten goals in a game twice.
