Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - After the Gary SouthShore RailCats capitalized on opportunities with runners in scoring position earlier in the ballgame, the team could not come through late, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied to take game one of the series and move a game ahead of the 'Cats in the race for the wildcard.

Winnipeg pushed an unearned run across in the first, and the score stayed there until the 'Cats (31-37) got three straight hits to lead off the fourth inning to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

With the game tied and two outs in the fifth, Michael Vaughn, who went 3-for-5 in the game, drove a line drive just out of the reach of Winnipeg second baseman Brad Boyer to untie the game and give the 'Cats another lead at 3-2.

The RailCats brought in another two-out run in the sixth when Ryan Brockett singled in Adam Taylor, making it a 4-2 ballgame.

Then, in the eighth, the American Association home run leader, Josh Mazzola, blasted a two-run home run to tie the game at four. The blast was his 18th of the year.

Andy Loomis and Matt Solter both worked scoreless innings of relief in the ninth and tenth, but the wheels came off in the eleventh when the Goldeyes plated three unearned runs.

Ryan Quigley, a Joliet, Ill., native who made his first start Wednesday, had a quality start, going six innings, giving up only one earned run on four hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

The RailCats are now 8.5 games back of the wildcard leader Kansas City T-Bones and 19 games back of the division-leading Sioux City.
