
Explorers Stretch Winning Streak To Nine In A Row

The Sioux City Explorers extended their win streak to a season high nine in a row with the 4-2 victory over Fargo-Moorhead at Lewis and Clark Park. X's catcher Brendan Slattery knocked in two with a single and a double in the contest.
The Explorers plated the first two runs of the game in the bottom half of the second. X's second baseman Ryan Court doubled with one out, stole second base and scored off an RBI double by Tommy Mendonca to take the early 1-0 lead. Mendonca scored on the next at-bat off a Brendan Slattery base-hit for the second run.
Fargo-Moorhead went on to score a run in the third and fourth innings to tie it at 2-2. In the third, Ryan Pineda led-off with a single, moved to third on a Taylor Oldham base-hit and scored off a sacrifice fly by Drew Muren for their first run. RedHawks first baseman Joe Bonfe tied it in the fourth with a solo home run to even the score.
In the seventh, Tommy Mendonca singled with one out in the innings, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored off an RBI double lined by newly signed Explorer Brendan Slattery to retake the lead 3-2.
Sioux City went on to score their fourth and final run in the eighth off a Brock Kjeldgaard RBI double to make it 4-2, which wound up being the final score of the game with Jose Flores closing it out in the ninth to get the save.
Explorers starting pitcher Eric Wordekemper (5-2) got the no decision going 5.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits, two walks with a season high six strikeouts. X's reliever Rob Wort (7-3) received the win striking out four without a run allowed in two innings. Fargo-Moorhead's starter Taylor Stanton (3-3) was charged with the loss giving up three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
Sioux City had four batters finish the night with two hits. X's catcher Brendan Slattery had the standout night at the plate taking home the player of the game honors with two hits, two RBIs and a double.
