
Castillo Drives in Two Runs as Carolina Evens the Series with a 5-2 Game 2 Win

Fayetteville, N.C.- Luis Castillo's RBI single scoring two runs, a Tayden Hall RBI, and two wild pitches led to Carolina's 5-2 Game 2 win.
Carolina (20-12, 52-42) built an early lead and held off Fayetteville (14-18, 44-54) to even the series at one apiece. Carolina collected two runs in the first thanks to a Tayden Hall groundout that scored a run followed by a wild pitch giving the Mudcats two early runs. Carolina added two more runs in the third off a Luis Castillo single giving the Mudcats a three-run lead. After Fayetteville cut the lead in half a wild pitch in the fifth gave Carolina their fifth run of the game.
Carolina did not play a perfect game and still struggled to capitalize on multiple occasions with runners in dangerous positions. The Mudcats finished 4-18 with runners in scoring position and failed to bring in a record hit with the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh inning.
Quinton Low started on the mound and went four innings for Carolina. Low gave up two runs and three hits but added seven strikeouts in his start. Tyler Wehrle (W, 8-5) got the win in relief pitching three and two-thirds innings. Wehrle gave up no runs and only one hit while picking up the win. Yerlin Rodriguez (S, 7) picked up the save going one a third inning striking out one and allowing one hit.
Andrew Taylor (L, 4-6) started for Fayetteville and picked up the loss going four innings. Taylor allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five in his outing. Alimber Santa pitched the last four innings for the Woodpeckers, giving up no runs and only two hits while adding seven strikeouts in his outing.
The series continues with Game 3 Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Carolina looks to take the lead in the series with Patricio Aquino expected to get the start on the mound for the Mudcats.
