Modesto Nuts News Release

San Bernardino, CA. - Ryan Castellani pitched well enough to win but the Modesto Nuts came up short due to two defensive miscues in a 4-2 loss against the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at San Manuel Stadium.

For the fourth consecutive start, Ryan Castellani (L, 1-3) worked into the seventh inning for the Nuts (17-24). The righty allowed just one earned run, three total, in seven innings of work with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

A throwing error by Collin Ferguson in the first on a potential double play ball allowed the first run of the game to score. In the sixth, the 66ers (12-30) scored a run on a RBI groundout in an inning that they did not hit the ball out of the infield. In the seventh, a fielding error by Forrest Wall at second base led to the go-ahead run for Inland Empire.

The Nuts had tied the game and taken the lead in the sixth inning. Omar Carrizales hustled out a double and scored on Dom Nunez's RBI single. Wes Rogers had walked and scored on Ferguson's sac fly.

That was all the Nuts would get against 66ers' starter Alex Klonowski who worked six innings and struck out six with only one walk. Jose Molina (W, 2-2) tossed two hitless innings out of the 'pen. Eduardo Paredes (S, 4/6) worked a perfect ninth inning.

Game two of the four-game set with the 66ers on Saturday night is scheduled to start at &;05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
