Lancaster JetHawks News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - Garrett Stubbs went hitless to end his hitting streak at 16 games as the JetHawks fell to the High Desert Mavericks, 8-3, on Friday night at Heritage Field.

Stubbs came to the plate in the ninth with a final chance to extend his streak and drove in a run with a groundout to third, finishing his night 0-for-4 with a walk. He hit .351 with four home runs and 15 RBI during the streak.

The JetHawks (18-21) trailed early in the series opener. Jose Cardona reached first to lead off the first inning when a third-strike pitch got away from catcher Jamie Ritchie. Ritchie's throw to first hit Cardona in the back for an error. He would eventually score on a Jairo Beras sacrifice-fly.

Starter Matt Bower (0-1) allowed another unearned run in the second inning. First baseman Bryan Muniz's throw to second on an attempted force play sailed high allowing David Lyon to reach safely. Michael De Leon singled him home two batters later.

Bower's night came to an end in the third inning. He allowed five runs, all earned, in the frame and was removed after going just 2.2 innings in his second start. He struck out four, walked four and allowed five hits.

Reliever Jacob Dorris shut the Mavs down for four innings out of the bullpen. The right-hander struck out six and allowed just two hits.

Mavs starter Tyler Davis (1-0) struck out 10 Lancaster hitters over five innings in his Cal League debut. He allowed just two hits and walked a batter.

The JetHawks got on the board once Davis came out of the game. Reliever Jason Richman walked the first three batters he faced to start the sixth inning before Muniz singled home two. Shane McCain came on in relief and did not allow another run to score.

High Desert added a run in the eighth inning against reliever Ryan Thompson before Lancaster picked up its last run on the Stubbs ground ball in the ninth.

With the loss, Lancaster's season-best four-game winning streak came to an end. The JetHawks are now 0-5 at Heritage Field this season.

The series continues on Saturday night at Heritage Field as the JetHawks send Dean Deetz (2-1) to the mound against Adam Quintana (1-1). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
