Fields Day Slams Wiper, Mavericks
May 20, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The Bakersfield Blaze (17-23) aren't playing another regular season game this year in Adelanto and that is perfectly fine with the High Desert Mavericks (26-15). After two lopsided affairs on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Mavs were looking to pick themselves up on Thursday night.
In the second inning of Game 3, Arby Fields made sure the Mavs stayed down for good. Fields hit a grand slam to right field on a windy, but cool evening at Heritage Field and the Blaze swept the Mavericks by beating them 17-2.
Similar to the first two games, the Blaze erased any doubt of who would prevail by having a monster inning.
Cole Wiper (L, 3-1) lasted 1.2 innings after he gave up six runs on four hits in the second and that was more than enough for Andrew Moore (W, 3-1).
Kyle Petty led the inning off with a single before Chantz Mack was drilled by an 0-2 fastball. After Daniel Torres struck out, Joe DeCarlo drew a walk that paved the way for Fields. One day after Tyler Marlette hit a grand slam, Fields duplicated effort.
Much like Marlette, Fields finished his night going 3-4 with 6 RBI and three runs scored.
Jay Baum made sure Fields didn't own all the spotlight as he went 3-6 with four runs driven in.
In the three-game series, Bakersfield outscored High Desert 39-8 and a big reason for that was the long ball.
Fields and Gianfranco Wawoe (4-5, 4R, 3RBI) homered to give the club eight against High Desert pitching this year.
Moore breezed through the Mavericks line up by pitching six full innings, striking out seven, and giving up two runs. In his two previous victories this season, Moore was provided with 19 runs of support and tonight it followed the same script.
The Blaze now pack their bags and head south to face the Lake Elsinore Storm for a four-game series starting Friday night. First pitched is scheduled for 7:00pm and David Gascon will have all the action on TuneIn Radio along with BakersfieldBlaze.com.
