
Castanon Homers, Missions Drop Series Finale in Wichita

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions concluded their six-game series with the Wichita Wind Surge on Sunday afternoon. With a chance to clinch their ninth series victory, the Missions ended up getting walked off for the second time in the series. Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Henry Henry allowed a walk-off single to Michael Helman.
Travis Adams was the starting pitcher for Wind Surge. The Missions scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Jakob Marsee began the ballgame by drawing a walk. Graham Pauley doubled and Marsee moved to third base. Adams retired the next two batters before giving up a two-run double to Michael De La Cruz. San Antonio grabbed an early 2-0 lead.
The Missions had a chance to improve their lead in the following inning. With two outs in the frame, Marsee drew a walk and Pauley doubled down the left field line. Adams left both runners stranded after striking out Nathan Martorella.
Jared Kollar was the starting pitcher for the Missions. The right-hander allowed two runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Patrick Winkel drew a walk to start the frame. After retiring the next two batters, Willie Joe Garry Jr. doubled to keep the inning alive. Will Holland drove in both runners with a double to left field. The game was tied 2-2.
San Antonio regained the lead in the top of the third inning. On the first pitch of the frame, Marcos Castanon lifted a fly ball over the left field fence for a home run. His third long ball as a Mission made it a 3-2 ballgame.
Wichita had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the third inning. After retiring the first batter, Kollar allowed a base hit to Tanner Schobel. The right-hander sat down the next batter before giving up a single to Winkel. On the play, Schobel advanced to third base. Aaron Sabato flew out to end the inning.
Kollar's day came to an end after four innings of work. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking one batter. Along the way, he collected two strikeouts. Bobby Milacki took the mound for the Missions in the fifth inning.
The Wind Surge threatened to tie the game in the fifth inning. Milacki issued a leadoff walk to Yoyner Fajardo. A ground out moved Fajardo to second base. Fajardo stole third base to put himself closer to scoring. Milacki left him stranded following a strikeout and a line out.
Wichita tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one man down, Sabato homered to left field. His 11th long ball of the season made it a 3-3 game.
The Missions had a chance to regain the lead in the seventh inning. Facing Taylor Floyd, Connor Hollis doubled to begin the frame. Juan Zabala executed a sacrifice bunt and Hollis moved to third base. Denny Bentley entered the game to face Marsee. Marsee hit a fly ball to right field which resulted in a double play. Holland made the catch and threw home ot tag out Hollis trying to score from third.
San Antonio again had a scoring opportunity in the eighth inning. With one out, Martorella drew a walk. Curtis Taylor took over on the mound and Korry Howell entered the game as a pinch runner. After retiring the next batter, Michael De La Cruz drew a walk to put two runners on base. Howell and De La Cruz executed a double steal. Ripken Reyes grounded out and left both runners stranded.
Wichita put two runners on base during the bottom of the eighth inning. Schobel drew a walk to start the frame. After retiring the next batter, Milacki was replaced by Daniel Camarena. The southpaw allowed a single to David Banuelos. The inning came to an end with a 6-4-3 double play.
In the top of the ninth inning, Taylor remained on the mound for Wichita. He retired all three Missions hitters in order. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Henry Henry took the mound for the Missions. With two outs, Holland drew a walk to keep the inning alive. Fajardo drew a walk to put two runners on base. Michael Helman ended the game with a single to center field.
