West Sacramento, Calif. - Chris Carter's third-inning grand slam capped a five-run frame for the River Cats as they defeated the visiting Reno Aces by a score of 5-4 on Sunday night at Raley Field.

The Aces struck first when Jake Elmore scored from second on a fielder's choice from A.J. Pollock. Reno would tack on two more in the top of the third before the River Cats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning.

A double, walk and a single from the first three batters of the inning loaded the bases. After Brandon Hicks struck out, Manny Ramirez drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring the Cats' first run. The next batter, Carter, drove a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall, clearing the bases and putting the River Cats on top, 5-3. The Aces scored once more in the ninth, but failed to complete the comeback, falling to the Cats by a score of 5-4.

Carter finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two strikeouts and a grand slam. Ramirez went 0-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts. He is now 6-for-28 (.214) in eight games with Sacramento.

River Cats starter Brad Peacock relinquished 10 hits, three runs-two earned-and zero walks with five strikeouts for the win. Pedro Figueroa pitched two perfect innings of relief while Evan Scribner allowed one run in the ninth, but held on to earn his fourth save in as many tries.

Aces starter Barry Enright gave up five earned runs with four hits and four walks in seven innings with 10 strikeouts for the loss. Elmore and Adam Eaton each had two-hit nights, preserving their respective PCL-season-leading .400 and .401 batting averages.

A's star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will begin a Major League rehab assignment tomorrow with the River Cats for the final game of the series at 1:05 p.m. at Raley Field. River Cats lefty Fabio Castro (2-4, 6.39 ERA) will face top Diamondbacks prospect, right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer (1-0, 1.38 ERA) on a "Seniors Eat Free" Monday, presented by Cache Creek Casino Resort.
