Carter nabs second weekly award for Wizards

Fort Wayne, IN - Wizards outfielder Sam Carter earned the second consecutive Midwest League Batter of the Week for Fort Wayne, following third baseman Rayner Contreras.

Carter started his hot hitting on Monday, July 9 against the Lansing Lugnuts and did not cool off after a three-day break for the Wizards. He returned from the Major League Baseball All-Star vacation and continued to tear up the Cedar Rapids Kernels pitching staff.

Carter, from Saint Mary's University in California, has homered in four straight games and raised his average 17 points, from .303 to .320 heading into Monday's series finale against the Kernels.

For the week of July 9 through July 15, Carter was 8-for-15 (.533 average) with six runs, one double, seven runs batted in and four walks.

On the season, Carter is currently hitting .320 with a team-high nine home runs and 31 RBI.
