Great Lakes Loons News Release

The Great Lakes Loons failed to capitalize on a golden scoring opportunity in the bottom half of the ninth inning to drop a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to the Burlington Bees Monday night at Dow Diamond. The Bees capture the four-game series three games to one.

Trailing by one run entering the last half inning, the Loons loaded the bases on an Adolfo Gonzalez single to right, a bunt single by Trayvon Robinson and a walk to Eduardo Perez. With no one out, Aaron Hartsock struck out Josh Bell looking. Then Bees skipper Jim Gabella called upon reliever Jim Wladyka.

Wladyka proceeded to strike out Tommy Giles and induce a ground ball to first base off the bat of Matt Berezay to preserve the 4-3 victory.

Wladyka recorded his second save, securing the victory for Henry Barrera (1-0).

The Bees snapped a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with two runs on doubles by Brady Everett and Jeff Bianchi.

Giles went 3-for-5 in the game and now has three-hit games in four of his last six games. Robinson also went 3-for-5 in the game.

The Loons drop to 7-15 in the second half of the season and 41-51 overall, 10 games under .500, their most games under .500 in 2007.

Great Lakes was managed by hitting coach Garey Ingram, who will continue piloting the Loons on an interim basis Tuesday and Wednesday as manager Lance Parrish attends his son Matt's graduation from the sheriff's academy.

The Swing of the Quad Cities makes their first trip to Midland Tuesday night for the first of a four game series. Game time for all four games is 7:05pm. Left-hander James Adkins will start for the Loons and pitch one inning Tuesday. Lefty Paul Coleman will work out of the bullpen. Right-hander Elvis Hernandez (5-7) will start for the Swing.

Tickets are available for all four games by calling 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com. The first 3,500 fans through the Dow Diamond gates Tuesday receive a poster featuring all four Loons players who played in the 2007 Midwest League All-Star Game. The giveaway is presented by F.P. Horak.
