Springfield, MO - The Arkansas Travelers two-hit the Springfield Cardinals in a 4-0 win on Friday night at Hammons Field.
RHP Tyler Carpenter (W, 4-3) worked five innings and allowed just one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Carpenter, who retired each of the first 12 batters in the game, picked up his third straight victory for Arkansas and lowered his June ERA to 1.69.
LHP Jose Molina (1.2 IP), RHP Josh Roenicke (1.1 IP) and RHP Alan Busenitz each combined for the shutout.
The four Travs runs were plated on two two-run home runs.
In the sixth, DH Jabari Henry blasted his sixth longball over the last nine games to get the Travs on the board.
RF Caleb Adams followed suit with his second of the roadtrip in the seventh.
Both home runs were launched on 3-2 pitches.
1B Eric Aguilera, who went 4-for-4 in the Travs last game on Wednesday, started 3-for-3 and finished 3-for-4 with a run and a double.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 33-40 this season and 1-2 in the second half. The Travs and Cardinals will play game two of the three-game series on Saturday night at Hammons Field.
