All-Star Home Run Derby Participants and Format Revealed

Springfield, MO - With the 2016 Texas League All-Star Game, presented by Great Southern Bank, coming up on Tuesday, June 28 at Hammons Field, the Springfield Cardinals and the Texas League are excited to announce the participants for the Home Run Derby, presented by Bass Pro Shops.

The Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby will begin at 5:45pm on Tuesday, June 28, with gates opening at 5:10pm. A ticket to the All-Star Game includes admission to the Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby as well. Seats are going quickly for the All-Star Game and Derby, so order yours by clicking the link at the bottom of this email right now.

The eight Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby participants are listed below and are subject to change. Their current home run totals and league rankings are as of June 24, 2016:

North Division:

Luke Voit, Springfield Cardinals - tied for 10th with 10 HRs

Eric Aguilera, Arkansas Travelers - tied for 10th with 10 HRs

Willie Calhoun, Tulsa Drillers - tied for 3rd with 14 HRs

Frank Schwindel, Northwest Arkansas Naturals - tied for 13th with 9 HRs

South Division:

Alex Bregman, Corpus Christi Hooks - tied for 3rd with 14 HRs

Matt Chapman, Midland RockHounds - 1st with 17 HRs

Derek Fisher, Corpus Christi Hooks - tied for 6th with 12 HRs

Ronald Guzman, Frisco RoughRiders - tied for 10th with 10 HRs

The Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby will consist of two rounds with the eight players above competing for the crown. The derby will follow the same format as last year's exciting Major League Baseball Home Run Derby.

In Round One, the eight players will each have three minutes and 30 seconds to hit as many home runs as they can. The North Division player with the top 1st-round home run total and the South Division player with the top 1st-round home run total will both advance to Round Two. A wild card player will also advance to Round Two, and will be the player with the next-highest home run total from either division.

With their individual home run totals from Round One carrying into Round Two, the three finalists will then each receive another three minutes and 30 seconds in Round Two to hit as many home runs as they can. The player with the most home runs combined through the two rounds will be crowned the Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby Champion.

In the event of a tie in either round, a 60-second swing off will serve as the tie breaker. Just like last year's Major League Home Run Derby, there will not be outs recorded for not hitting a home run.
