FRISCO, TX - Kyle Smith made a strong start and Cy Sneed authored a dominant finish as the Hooks beat the RoughRiders 3-2 Thursday night before an announced crowd of 6,012 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Corpus Christi (2-1, 49-24) has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with Frisco (1-2, 39-33). The Hooks are 20-4 since May 31, and have not endured back-to-back losses this month.

The visitors got to Luis Ortiz for two runs on three hits in the first inning, including RBIs by Derek Fisher and Nick Tanielu.

Ortiz blanked Corpus Christi over the next four innings and, at one point, retired 11 of 12 batters.

Frisco's runs came in the first and fourth on long balls by Ryan Cordell and Joe Jackson.

Smith retired the final five hitters he faced, throwing 43 of 64 pitches for strikes on the night.

In the sixth, Chase McDonald crushed a laser to left field off Ryan Ledbetter. His 12th home run made it 3-2 Corpus Christi.

Sneed registered 10 strikeouts, the most by a Hooks pitcher this year, over the final four innings. The Riders mustered only two singles and one walk against him.

The series continues Friday night as Keegan Yuhl (7-1, 2.10) draws Connor Sadzeck (6-3, 3.18). Yuhl is bidding to match the club record by winning six consecutive starts. First pitch 7:05.
