Carolina wins over Montgomery

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats beat the Montgomery Biscuits 9-3 in the series finale at Five County Stadium Saturday night before 5,388 fans.

Carolina hitters set the tone right from the first pitch, scoring five times on six hits in the bottom of the first. The Mudcats had 19 hits on the night, with all nine Mudcats starters hitting safely. DH Todd Frazier went 4-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two Mudcats as well. CF Chris Heisey went deep for the second straight game, homering deep to left off the scoreboard in the eighth inning.

Montgomery Biscuits starter Jason Cromer (L, 4-3) lasted only three innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. Montgomery relievers fared no better as all three gave up runs out of the bullpen for the Biscuits.

The Mudcats got a solid performance from emergency spot starter Curtis Partch (W, 1-0). Making his AA debut, Partch scattered a run on five hits and two walks over five innings of work. The Mudcats bullpen put together another solid performance as Sean Watson and Ramon Geronimo combined for three scoreless innings to close out the contest.

The Tennessee Smokies (21-29) come to Five County Stadium Sunday at 2PM to begin a 5-game series with the Mudcats (25-24). LHP Alexander Smit (1-0, 3.23) makes the start for Carolina while Tennessee sends Marcos Mateo (1-2, 5.19) to the hill.
