Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - Another massive crowd at Hank Aaron Stadium witnessed the BayBears continue their longest winning streak in two years as they knocked off the Jacksonville Suns on Saturday night in front of 6,466 fans, 7-5.

For the first time in this series, the BayBears (30-20) fell behind early as Barry Enright (4-3) served up a lead-off home run to Lorenzo Scott. Jacksonville (23-27) didn't hold the advantage for long as Pedro Ciriaco led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole two bases and came home on a sac fly from Cyle Hankerd to tie the game.

With the score still knotted at 1-1 in the third, the BayBears erupted against starter Aaron Thompson (2-7) with four runs on four hits. Ciriaco and James Skelton began the frame with singles, they both scored on a triple by Chris Rahl. Rahl then touched the plate after a base hit by Hankerd. Orlando Mercado followed with another hit, and Hankerd scored on a botched double play ball thanks to an errant throw by Smelin Perez.

Jacksonville wouldn't go down quietly for their sixth straight loss as Andy Jenkins and Scott Cousins both doubled with one out to pull the Suns within three. Cousins scored on a base hit by Tim Torres to make it 5-3. Enright was done after 5 2/3 innings as he fanned four while walking just one. As he left the contest, the Suns drew closer on Scott's RBI single in the sixth.

The BayBears continued to play keep-away the rest of the night as each team traded runs over the sixth and seventh innings. Jacksonville threatened in the eighth with two on and two out, but Kyler Newby (S, 3) worked out of it and pitched a perfect ninth.

The Mobile BayBears have produced nearly 100 players to the major leagues, and they'll look for their ninth consecutive victory in Chattanooga on Sunday at 4:15 central time as they battle the Lookouts with Matt Torra (2-5, 4.69) getting the start. The BayBears return home on Friday, June 5 to battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05 p.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
