Jaxx take series with 11-1 win over Lookouts

JACKSON, TENN. - The Diamond Jaxx (20-28) win their fourth series of 2009 with a 11-1 thrashing of the Chattanooga Lookouts (20-29). The battle to stay out of the basement gives the Jaxx a half game lead on the Lookouts in fourth place in the North Division. The Jaxx pounded out 8 extra base hits, including three round trippers, one triple and four doubles. The Jaxx take three of five from Chattanooga.

The scoring began in the first inning when Mel Stocker walked to begin the game then stole second and third and finally scoring a double play ball hit by Johan Limonta.

The fifth inning for the Diamond Jaxx produced five runs on five base hits. Ronnie Prettyman led off the inning with his third homer of the season. Brent Johnson doubled in Oswaldo Navarro and Johan Limont, who scored on a fielding error giving the Jaxx a 4-0 lead. Then, Matt Mangini hit a two-run homer, his second of the season scoring Johnson. The Jaxx led 6-0 after the third.

Justin Souza (4-3) was lifted in the seventh inning after his longest outing this year. Souza goes 6.2 innings, giving up just one run on four hits in the win. He had a season high nine strikeouts. Matt Renfree relieved Justin Souza and went 2.2 in his second appearance of the season.

Johan Limonta tripled and then scored in the fifth before the Jaxx added four more runs in the seventh. Limonta hit a two-run homerun to right giving the Jaxx a 9-0 lead scoring Oswaldo Navarro on the round tripper. The Jaxx would have back-to-back-to-back doubles by Marshall Hubbard, Brent Johnson and Matt Mangini to score two more runs. The Diamond Jaxx matched their largest scoring margin of 10 in the game.

Matt Mangini picked up 4 for 4 day at the plate with a double and the homerun driving in three runs. Johan Limonta went 3 for 4. Brent Johnson and Oswaldo Navarro each collected two hit games.

Travis Chick (3-2) takes the loss for Chattanooga. The former Jaxx pitcher lasted just 2.2 innings before being pulled by manager, John Valentin. Chick gave up six runs on six hits.

The Jaxx begin a six game series in five days at Mississippi Sunday afternoon, beginning at 5:05. The starter pitchers in the game are to be determined. The Braves are currently 22-27 on the year and in last place in the Southern League's South Division.
