Zebulon, NC --- Gaby Martinez and Russell Mitchell each hit two-run homers as Chattanooga defeated Carolina 12-4 on a rainy Monday night at Five County Stadium.

The series finale was played under a very stern rainfall over the final five innings, but the Lookouts (10-15) took control early against Carolina starter Misael DeJesus. Chattanooga went ahead in the first on Martinez's two-run, two-out home run, then added three in the second, keyed by a two-run double from Justin Sellers.

Carolina scored two unearned runs in the second against James Adkins (W, 1-2). A throwing error by third baseman Josh Bell scored Sean Henry from third, then a grournder from Jose Castro scored the other as the Mudcats trimmed their deficit to 5-2.

As the rain intensified in the fourth, the game was nearing a delay, but the tarp was never called onto the field. Chattanooga scored five times in the seventh against relievers Alexander Smit and Federico Baez, then added two more in the eighth on Mitchell's second home run of the series for a 12-2 lead.

Carolina scored its final two runs in the eighth on a passed ball and a Castro single.

With the loss, Carolina (9-16) dropped the series 4-1, and fell into sole possession of last place in the North.
