Jaxx lose rain shortened game, game two postponed Monday night

Birmingham, Ala. (May 4, 2009) - The Barons and Diamond Jaxx squeezed one game in on Monday night at Regions Park before the rains postponed game two. The Jaxx fall 3-0 in a shortened five inning game in which Baron's starter, Aaron Poreda tossed a no hitter.

T he Barons scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Jaxx starting pitcher, Steven Hensley walked Barons leadoff hitter, John Shelby to open the inning. He was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Rob Hudson. Tyler Flowers singled to bring in Shelby and gave the Barons a 1-0 lead. Two hitters later, Dayan Viciedo plated two with a double to right giving the Barons a 3-0 lead.

Baron's starter, Aaron Poreda (2-3) tossed a no hitter through the five innings and will be recorded as a no hitter. It is the first no hitter of the year in minor league baseball. Steven Hensley takes the loss for the Jaxx in his Double-A debut. Hensley went four innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked four.

The second game of the double-header has been postponed till a later date. After the second batch of storms the field was deemed unplayable by the umpires.

The Jaxx open a five game series with the Huntsville Stars on Tuesday night. LHP Danny Christensen (0-1, 18.00) will make his second start of the year for the Jaxx. Huntsville will counter with RHP Jeremy Jeffress (1-1, 4.91).
