JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bryan Augenstein improved to 5-0 while the BayBears mustered up just enough offense to keep away the Jacksonville Suns on Monday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds with a 5-3 victory.

Augenstein was sharp as ever through the first five innings and was staked to a 3-0 lead before tiring in the sixth. Yunesky Sanchez began the third with a double down the third base line and scored on a groundout off the bat of Evan Frey for the first run of the game.

In the sixth, Gerardo Parra smacked a booming two-run homer to right to put the BayBears (17-8) in front by a three spot. With the Florida sun beating down on Augenstein, the contest tightened.

Scott Cousins started the home half of the sixth with a double and touched home after a triple by Bryan Petersen. Petersen was knocked in by a groundout from Kevin Randel. Jacksonville (13-12) nearly tied it as Andy Jenkins doubled off the fence in left-center, but he was stranded to end the inning as Lorenzo Scott popped out against Clay Zavada.

The BayBears tacked on a couple insurance runs late with Parra scoring on a Bryan Byrne sac fly in the eighth before a James Skelton RBI single in the ninth put the BayBears back on top by three.

Jacksonville added a run in the bottom of the ninth and had two men on when Kyler Newby (S, 1) fanned pinch-hitter Brad Davis to end the ballgame.

Cody Evans (2-2, 4.84) toes the rubber for the BayBears on Tuesday night from Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. where a five-game series begins against the Mudcats at 6:15 p.m. The BayBears return home to battle Montgomery on Monday, May 11 at 7:05 p.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium ticket information, please call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
