JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - For the second time in the first three weeks of the season, a BayBear has been named Southern League Hitter of the Week. After Ricardo Sosa's opening week heroics, Cyle Hankerd earns this week's distinction.

Hankerd blazed through the previous week while recording 15 hits in 22 at-bats for an eye-popping .682 batting average. The 24-year old outfielder tripled his RBI total from five to 15 while ripping three home runs during a two-game stretch in Jacksonville.

Hankerd's break out game was on May 1 when the BayBears walloped the Suns 12-0 thanks to a two-homer, five-RBI output by Hankerd who has become a staple in left field for the BayBears.

Hankerd was originally drafted out of the University of Southern California in the third round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He won Northwest League MVP honors in Yakima in '06 while cracking a .384 batting average. He hit .245 with five dingers and 52 RBI in his first year as a BayBear last season.

Following their series against the Suns which wraps today, the BayBears will head to Zebulon, N.C. to battle the Carolina Mudcats for a five-game set which begins on Tuesday. The BayBears return home to battle Montgomery on Monday, May 11 at 7:05 p.m.
