Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH S.C. - For the 4th time this season the Pelicans have watched one of their players receive a promotion to Double-A Mississippi. Today the Pelicans closer, Dan Smith, who led the Carolina League in saves with 5, was promoted to Mississippi.

Smith had earned a save in each of his last five appearances on the hill and leaves Myrtle Beach with a 1-0 record and a 1.13 ERA to go along with his handful of saves. The big lefty allowed just one run on five hits in a total of eight innings this season. Opponents hit a mere .172 against him.

On Saturday night the Pelicans take on the Lynchburg Hillcats (Pittsburgh Pirates) in game two. The Pelicans send LHP Matt Harrison to the mound, while Lynchburg counters with LHP Kyle Bloom. First pitch is set for 7:02 pm, with gates swinging open at 6:02 pm. The Pelicans will wear pink jerseys and will "Play For A Cure" with proceeds of the event going towards the fight against breast cancer.
